Why do I need to be saved?

We have been disobedient to God since the beginning of man's existence. Man has gone astray to follow false gods and religions because we have been deceived and led by our desires, rather than obeying God. The apostle Paul presented the most basic explanation of why we need to be saved in Acts 17:19-31. Paul revealed to the Athenians that we are created creatures who have gone astray, living our lives the way we want. God has given us free will and the ability to go our own way. Following these sinful tendencies, we erased the only true and living God from our minds and replaced him with an image that suited our beliefs. The Lord has continued to provide for our everyday needs despite our wicked tendencies.

He holds us all accountable for our ungodliness and unrighteousness. Due to Adam and Eve's sin, this is the status of the human race. We deserve the death sentence that sin brings because of our immoral behavior. Maybe you don't view yourself in this way, but nobody is flawless or good enough in God's eyes. God demands that we live up to His standards because He is holy, without sin, and perfect. He will judge the world at the end of the age using His standards, not ours. We deserve to be punished and destroyed for all time.

12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all mankind, because all sinned— Romans 5:12

Thankfully, God is kind and has created a means to deliver us from the results of our disobedience. By being gracious and providing a means of purifying us from our filthiness through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ, HE demonstrated his loving-kindness toward us. He has put us back in right standing with Him through Jesus.
