A Reflection on God's Nearness and His Wonderous Works

Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.(Psalms 75:1).

In every direction I turn, the presence of God is unmistakably evident, as stated in Romans 1:20. His existence is undeniable, merely glimpsing at the wonders of His creation serves as a testament to His divine reality. Yet, it's not only the creation that testifies to His majesty but also His marvelous works.

During my morning reflections, I encountered Psalm 75:1, prompting me to contemplate its opening of a double thanks to God. Beyond the deserved gratitude, the Psalmist sought to underscore the thanksgiving because God's name was in close proximity.

The name of God, as portrayed in the Bible, is profoundly meaningful, encapsulating facets of His nature, character, and authority—an embodiment of His essence. God's proximity to His people is vividly depicted in numerous ways, with His wondrous works bearing witness to it. Let's delve into some scriptures to glean insight.

In Deuteronomy 4:33-34, the rhetorical question arises: "Did any people ever hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire and live? Or has God attempted to take for Himself a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, signs, wonders, war, a mighty hand, a stretched-out arm, and great terrors, according to all that the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?" This passage offers a glimpse into how near God was to His people, with His wondrous works attesting to His proximity. Remarkably, this scripture remains relevant today, for through the sacrifice of Jesus, we've been brought near to God (Ephesians 2:13). Paul, in 1 Corinthians 3:16, emphasizes the closeness, intimacy, and accessibility we now enjoy.

The present day, too, offers abundant evidence of God's nearness. His wondrous works are showcased through His Son, Jesus Christ. The supreme display of God's wondrous deeds is manifested in Jesus—through His incarnation, miracles, teachings, redemptive work, revelation of God's nature, the offer of salvation, and ongoing intercession. Jesus embodies God's love and stands as the ultimate expression of His wondrous deeds for humanity.

Therefore, today, echoing the sentiments of the Psalms, I say, "Thank you, Lord, for revealing your Son and drawing me near. Your wondrous works surround us and fill our lives. Once again, I express my heartfelt gratitude.
