A Reflection on God's Nearness and His Wonderous Works

Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.(Psalms 75:1).

Reflection

To begin with, everywhere I look, I see reminders of God's presence. Romans 1:20 tells us that His eternal power and divine nature are clearly seen in the world around us—and I feel that deeply. From the beauty of creation to the moments when I sense His hand in my day, God makes Himself known.

This morning, I paused at Psalm 75:1. What struck me wasn’t just the double thanks the psalmist gives, but the reason for it: “Your name is near.” That line stayed with me. God’s name isn’t just a title—it tells us who He is. His name carries His character, His nature, His authority. And when His name is near, His presence is near too.

Looking further into Scripture, I thought back to Deuteronomy 4, where Moses reminded the people of all the ways God had shown up for them—in fire, in power, in wonders, with a mighty hand. God had been so close, working in undeniable ways. And the beauty is, He still is. Ephesians 2:13 reminds me that through Jesus, I’ve been brought near. I don’t have to look far to find Him—He’s made Himself known.

In fact, God’s wondrous works didn’t stop in Egypt, and they didn’t end in the Psalms. They continue today through Jesus. In Him, we see God’s compassion, healing, teaching, sacrifice, and saving power. Every time I think of Jesus, I’m reminded just how near God really is—and how much He loves me.

So today, like the psalmist, I just want to say: Thank You, Lord. Your works still speak, and Your nearness is more than I deserve. But I’m so grateful.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for drawing me near to You. Your wondrous works—especially in Jesus—fill me with awe and praise. Thank You for speaking through creation, through Scripture, and through the daily reminders of Your love. Let my heart stay soft and full of thanks for all You’ve done and all You continue to do.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Just Before You Go

If you’re like me, sometimes all it takes is one quiet moment to realize just how close God really is. Whether it’s in the whisper of the trees or in the quiet comfort of Scripture, His nearness is a reason to sing—and a reason to give thanks. Take time today to notice the ways He’s surrounding you with His love. Even the smallest moment can become a beautiful reminder of His wondrous works.
