Seeking God’s Favor Instead of People’s Approval
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Book of Daniel 1:9 (KJV)
Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.
Reflection
I have always been a people pleaser, wanting to be in good standing with others. I would lean toward their whims and often squash my own desires just to keep the peace. For a long time I believed that if I tried hard enough to make people happy, things would eventually work out in my favor.
It took me years to realize that it never really worked. No amount of appeasing people can make someone truly care. Those who care about you already do. And those who do not cannot be persuaded by constant effort.
When I read about Daniel, I see someone who was wise and humble. You might assume that people favored him simply because of his character. After all, Daniel seemed like the kind of person anyone would like. But Scripture tells us something deeper about what happened.
Daniel did not gain favor because he was trying to please everyone around him. In fact, he had just made a decision that could have created conflict. He refused to defile himself with the king’s food. Instead of bending to the culture around him, Daniel quietly chose obedience to God.
Then we read something remarkable. God brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.
It was not Daniel manipulating the situation. It was not careful people pleasing. It was God working in the heart of someone else.
That is such an important lesson. When we spend all our energy trying to control how people feel about us, we often end up exhausted and disappointed. But when we choose to honor God first, He is able to work in ways we cannot see. He can soften hearts, open doors, and create favor that we could never manufacture ourselves.
Daniel’s story reminds me that my responsibility is faithfulness. The outcome belongs to God.
Today's Prayer
Lord, help me release the need to please everyone around me. Teach me to seek Your approval above all else. Give me the courage to walk in obedience even when it feels uncomfortable. Remind me that You are able to work in the hearts of others far better than I ever could. Thank You for guiding my steps and caring for the details of my life.
Before You Go
It is easy to spend our energy trying to win approval from people. Yet Scripture reminds us that true favor ultimately comes from the Lord.
“When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.”
Book of Proverbs 16:7
Daniel’s life shows us what that looks like. He did not compromise to gain acceptance. He chose faithfulness, and God worked in the hearts around him.
As you move through your day, remember that you do not have to manage every opinion or outcome. Focus on honoring God in the choices you make. Trust Him with the rest. Sometimes the favor we are striving to earn is already being prepared by God behind the scenes.
When God Grants Favor
Daniel’s faithfulness did not go unnoticed. Scripture tells us that God brought him into favor and compassion with those around him. Throughout the Bible we see this same truth. When people walk faithfully with the Lord, He is able to open doors, soften hearts, and pour out His grace in ways we could never arrange ourselves.
