Scripture for Today

Psalm 59:16“But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.”

Reflection

Usually, when I’m going through the downs of life—or maybe I’ve just had a rough week—I get caught up in whatever it is that’s turned my mood sour and my heart to grief. I’ll sit with the weight of it for hours, sometimes days. Then I hear a song. Just a few notes, and my heart starts to lift. The burdens feel a little lighter. And I find myself thinking: Why didn’t I press play earlier?

I also have to remind myself that when I sing, it’s not about having the perfect voice—it’s about offering a heart of thanks and lifting up God’s greatness. When we praise, we declare His glory and majesty, just like all of creation. We join in a perfect chorus, proclaiming what the heavens already shout.

As the Scripture says,
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”Psalm 150:6

I know that sometimes life feels heavy, and singing praises can feel like a struggle. But it’s in those moments when our hearts are weighed down that God invites us to turn our focus to Him and sing—whether aloud or in the quiet of our hearts. Praise has the power to lift our souls and remind us of the truth that God is good, faithful, and worthy of our worship, no matter what we’re facing.

Singing praises is a form of surrender—it pulls my focus off my struggles and places it on the One who is greater than them all. When I worship, even through tears, I’m reminded that He is still worthy. Praise helps align my heart with His, and even when I don’t feel like it, it draws me back to truth.

Just Before You Go

If your heart has been heavy lately, try lifting your voice—even if it’s just a whisper. Sing anyway. Sometimes the simple act of singing a worship song can shift the atmosphere of your heart. Praise Him right there in the middle of it. And if you know someone who could use a song of hope today, share this devotional with them. You never know how much a simple reminder can encourage a weary heart.
