Living In The Power of The Resurrection

Resurrection power is not just a phrase we hear during Resurrection Day services. It is not simply a moment in history when the tomb was found empty. It is the very power of God that raised Jesus Christ from the dead, and it is still at work today.
For many years, I did not fully understand that.
For many years, I did not fully understand that. In fact, I knew about Jesus. Moreover, I had heard the gospel countless times. Even so, I could explain the cross and the empty tomb. But knowing the story is not the same as living in the power of it.
There was a season in my life when I rebelled and chose my own way. I was disillusioned, frustrated, and often angry. I felt like I could not get anything right. Change seemed impossible. Even while sitting in a church pew surrounded by people, I felt spiritually alone.
What I did not understand then was this: the resurrection was not just something to believe in. It was something to live in.
The same power that brought Christ out of the grave was not meant to remain a distant doctrine. It was meant to transform my life.
What Is Resurrection Power?
Resurrection power is the life giving power of God that raised Jesus Christ from the dead and now works in every believer through the Holy Spirit.
It is not emotional motivation or symbolic strength. It is the same divine power that brought Christ out of the grave.
In Ephesians 1:19–20, Paul explains that the mighty power God used to raise Christ from the dead is now directed toward those who believe. And in Romans 8:11, we are reminded that the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us.
This means resurrection power is not only a past event. It is a present reality. It is God’s power at work within us, bringing spiritual life, strengthening us against sin, and transforming us from the inside out.
Paul longed to know “the power of His resurrection” in Philippians 3:10. That same power is available to every believer today.
The Resurrection Is Not Just an Event, It Is a Present Reality
When we think about the resurrection, we often think about the empty tomb. We picture the stone rolled away and the declaration that Christ is risen. That moment changed history.
But the resurrection did not end there.
After rising from the grave, Jesus Christ ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He continues His work even now.
Scripture tells us that He is:
Interceding for us before the Father (Romans 8:34)
Our advocate when we sin (1 John 2:1)
Preparing a place for us (John 14:2–3)
Inviting us to come boldly for mercy and grace (Hebrews 4:16)
Reigning in power and authority (Ephesians 1:20–21)
Promising to return (Revelation 22:12)
Resurrection power is not frozen in the past. The risen Christ is active, reigning, and working on behalf of His people right now.
Because He lives, we are not left to struggle alone.
Why Many Believers Struggle to Live in Resurrection Power
Many believers know the message of the gospel, yet still struggle to live in the power of it.
We understand that Christ died and rose again. Yet, we can explain salvation. Also, we attend church, read Scripture, and try to do what is right. And yet, something can still feel distant. Change feels slow. Old habits linger. Guilt whispers. We strive, but we do not always feel strengthened.
I know that tension personally.
There was a season when I knew the truth of the gospel, but I did not fully grasp what it meant to live in resurrection power. I was trying to change through effort rather than dependence. I believed in Christ, yet I often felt defeated. Even while sitting in a church pew surrounded by others, I felt spiritually adrift.
Looking back, I realize the problem was not a lack of information. Instead, it was a lack of understanding how deeply the resurrection applied to my daily life.
Resurrection power is not activated by striving harder. It is experienced through surrender, trust, and reliance on the Spirit of God. When we reduce Christianity to behavior management, we miss the transforming power that flows from a risen Savior.
The struggle many believers feel is not proof that God is absent. Often, it is evidence that we are trying to live the Christian life in our own strength instead of resting in His.
How to Begin Living in Resurrection Power
Living in resurrection power begins with the daily choice to depend on God’s strength instead of our own. Here are a few simple ways to start today:
1. Believe the Truth of the Resurrection
Don’t just know the story, trust it. The power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead now lives in you through the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11).
2. Surrender Your Struggle to God
Resurrection power is not self-help or willpower. It is God’s power renewing your mind and heart. When you feel weak, give that weakness to Him in prayer.
3. Walk in Newness of Life
Scripture teaches that those who are risen with Christ are called to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4). Daily cooperation with the Spirit, not perfection, allows this power to work in us.
4. Study the Word With a Heart to Apply It
Truth changes us when we meditate on it and live by it. To help you do that, the Resurrection Power Bible Study guides you through key passages with reflection questions for personal growth.
