A Grateful Heart: From "Once Was" to a Living Testimony

Reflection

A grateful heart is born not from a perfect past, but from the mercy that met us there.

As I pause to reflect, I can’t help but thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His power has not only transformed me inwardly but has also made my life a living testimony of His love and grace. Like Paul, who once stood far from the light, I look back and see just how far God has brought me—and I’m moved to gratitude.

For example, in 1 Timothy 1:12–15, Paul gives what I call a “not who I used to be” testimony. He remembers his past openly—not to glorify it, but to highlight the mercy of Christ. Though once a blasphemer and persecutor, Paul was chosen to show that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace. In the same way, that same truth applies to you and me today.

Because of Jesus, our “once was” is not our final identity. God, in His mercy, rewrites our story—not to hide our broken chapters, but to display His redemptive power through them. No matter your role, whether you serve in a visible ministry or simply live quietly in faith, your life testifies to the goodness of God.

In fact, someone may be watching your walk with God right now. Your grateful heart, born from what you've been saved from, could be the very encouragement they need. What a beautiful picture of God’s grace at work.

Therefore, today, I’m reminded that my transformation didn’t come from personal strength, but from the overflowing grace of Jesus Christ. Let’s give thanks—not just for what He’s done in our lives, but for how He continues to use us as vessels of hope for others.

Prayer

Gracious Heavenly Father,
With a grateful heart, I thank You for the mercy that met me in my lowest place and the grace that continues to sustain me. I am humbled that You would use my life as a testimony of Your love and power. Let others see You when they see me. Strengthen me daily to walk in Your truth, and may my story always reflect the glory of Your redemption.
In the name of Christ Jesus, I pray, Amen.
