Today's Scripture

Joel 3:14 (KJV)
“Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.”

Reflection

I know this may feel like a heavy verse for a devotional, but even passages like this are meant to both warn and encourage us. Throughout Scripture, we hear about the day of the Lord. It is described with urgency, with justice, and with finality.

Yet there is something we cannot miss. God does not act too soon, and He does not delay too long.

Like fruit on a vine, there comes a point of full ripeness. Left beyond that point, it does not improve but instead begins to spoil. In the same way, sin is not endless. There is a limit, a fullness, and a moment when God will act. This is part of understanding the valley of decision meaning, that there is a time appointed when everything is brought to account.

But in that truth, we also see His mercy.

He is patient. Patient toward us, and patient toward those we love who have not yet turned to Him. Every moment that passes is not delay without purpose, but an opportunity for repentance. The nearness of this day is not only a warning, but also a reminder that today is still a day of grace.

Today's Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your patience and mercy. You are not slow concerning Your promises, but longsuffering, giving time for hearts to turn to You. Help me to live with awareness of Your truth and not take Your patience for granted. Place a burden in my heart for those who do not yet know You, and give me boldness and love to share the truth with them. Let my life reflect urgency with peace, knowing that You are just and faithful in all You do.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before You Go

The day of the Lord is not meant to take you by surprise. For those who believe in Christ Jesus, this is not a day of uncertainty, but a day that has already been spoken of, promised, and assured. Scripture does not leave us in the dark, but continually calls us to be watchful, to be ready, and to live with understanding.

This coming judgment is also an answer to the cries that have gone up before God. Throughout Scripture, we hear those cries of “How long?” from the oppressed, from the weary, and from those longing for righteousness to be established. God has heard every one of them, even when the answer seemed delayed.

What may feel like slowness is not neglect, but patience. Yet there will come a day when those cries are fully answered, and when God brings everything into right order according to His justice.

Let this stir both confidence and urgency within you. Confidence, because God will make all things right, and urgency, because there are still those who have not yet turned to Him. Today is still the day to seek Him, and today is still the day to share the truth.

As you go, hold on to this assurance: nothing escapes God’s notice, and nothing will remain unresolved in His perfect timing.
