Blessed for Hearing Wisdom
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Proverbs 8:34 KJV
Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
Reflection
I was always one to grasp things quickly as a young one. I was reading before I even started school because I picked it up from my older brother. But I was also that very inquisitive child, always asking questions about everything around me. I am pretty sure my mother grew tired of hearing me ask why about every little thing. That part of me has not changed. I still seek answers, I still want to understand, and honestly, I still ask endless questions.
Learning comes in many forms. Sometimes we learn by reading. Sometimes by seeing. And many times by hearing. But hearing is not always the same as listening. I will be the first to admit that I am the champion of tuning out. I can hear someone talking and yet not absorb a single word because my mind has wandered off somewhere else. I know I am not alone in this. Sometimes the words are there, but they never make it past the surface.
Here in our devotional scripture, we find wisdom speaking of the blessing for those who hear. This kind of hearing is not a casual letting the sound pass through the ear. It is an intentional listening. It is a hearkening that leads to obedience. It is a yearning and an active seeking, the kind that leans in to understand. In this way, hearing the wisdom of God is not passive. It is a posture of the heart.
Watching daily at His gates means we come near on purpose. Waiting at His doors means we desire His voice more than the noise around us. Wisdom is not hidden from us. God is not distant from those who seek Him. But He does invite us to draw near, to listen with the kind of attention that says, Lord, I want to hear You. And when we do, there is a blessing attached to the hearing.
Today's Prayer
Father, give me ears to truly hear You. Help me not to take in Your words casually but with a heart that is eager to learn and obey. Teach me to watch daily at Your gates and to wait for Your voice with expectation. Let Your wisdom guide my decisions, shape my desires, and draw me closer to You each day.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Before You Go
Listening to God does not happen by accident. It grows out of a desire to be near to Him. It happens when we choose to slow down and let His voice matter more than the noise of our own thoughts. And as we listen, we remember that the wisdom of God is not an idea or a concept. It is Jesus Himself, the One who speaks, the One who leads, and the One who invites us to come close.
As you step into the rest of your day, ask yourself this simple question: Am I hearing God, or am I allowing everything else to drown Him out?
Draw near on purpose. Watch at His gates. Wait at His doors. You will find Him faithful to speak to the one who wants to hear.
Did you miss it? Don’t worry—you can still catch up.
