When You Lead

Daily Devotional
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.
Four men standing on a cliff, with one pointing while the others are looking, symbolizing leadership and the guidance of those with godly character, as discussed in the devotional.
Just as one leader points the way for others to follow, we are called to lead with wisdom, integrity, and a fear of God, showing others the path to follow.

Today's Scripture

Exodus 18:21 - Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

Reflection

I remember being in a crowd at an event, and navigating through it to get to my destination felt nearly impossible. You’re waiting for others to move or getting lost in the maze of people, and it’s frustrating. Now, imagine leading an entire nation out of Egypt, no police, no judges, just Moses. Handling disputes, guiding the people, and leading them through challenges. It’s a monumental task, yet Moses was chosen to do it.

Even a leader like Moses needed guidance, and that’s where his father-in-law, Jethro, offered wise counsel. Jethro advised Moses to appoint capable leaders who fear God, are trustworthy, and have integrity. These qualities weren’t just for Moses but are still incredibly relevant today for any of us, whether in a formal leadership role or not.

In life, we are all called to be leaders in some capacity, whether in our families, workplaces, communities, or even within ourselves. Leadership starts with character. When we have the fear of God, a reverence and respect for Him, we are grounded in truth. Integrity and trustworthiness are key to building relationships and leading others well, even if it’s not in a formal title. There’s always someone watching, and someone who needs your example.

Even if you don’t have a leadership role, God is still calling you to be a person of integrity, truth, and reverence for Him. You may not realize it, but there’s someone around you who needs the example of your character. Leadership is often about influence, and each of us has the opportunity to impact those around us, whether by encouraging a friend, guiding a coworker, or being a role model in small moments.

Today's Prayer

Lord, thank You for the example of Moses and for showing me that leadership starts with godly character. Help me to cultivate the qualities of truth, integrity, and reverence for You in my life, no matter what role I play. Even if I am not a formal leader, help me to lead by example and influence others for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Before You Go

Think about the qualities Jethro recommended: fear of God, truthfulness, and integrity. How can you incorporate these characteristics into your own life today? You may not hold a title, but your example can be a powerful form of leadership. Consider how your influence, even in small acts, can make a difference in someone else’s life. Remember, you are always leading in some way, whether you realize it or not.
