The Power of His Command

Daily Devotional
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.
Night sky with a telescope pointing upward, symbolizing the power of God's command that created the universe and all that is in it.
As the telescope searches the night sky, we are reminded of God's command that created the stars and all of creation.

Today's Scripture

Let them praise the name of the Lord: for he commanded, and they were created."
— Psalm 148:5 (KJV)

Reflection

In some of my downtime, I find great pleasure in looking at videos or reading about space and the solar system. The beauty and complexity of God's creation always points to Him. He is our Creator, the Creator of all things. Science often tries to attribute creation to some long, drawn-out process, claiming billions of years, but here in Psalm 148:5, we see that God commanded, and it was created.
These were not just mere words, but commands that carried the power to immediately accomplish what He said. When God said, "Let there be light," there was light. How amazing and awesome is that? It’s hard to wrap my mind around the sheer power and authority of God's words.
And sometimes, when I get lost in my own accomplishments, like cooking a great meal for the family or making a beautiful craft, I am reminded that it is He who is to be praised and glorified alone. The wonders of His command are beyond anything we can accomplish.
As we reflect on the magnificence of God's creation, let us also remember that every good thing, every act of beauty, and every moment of wonder is a reflection of His power and glory. He spoke everything into existence. His commands have the power to create, sustain, and transform. What an awe-inspiring truth!

And when we think of God's amazing power in creation, we also look to Jesus, through whom all things were made. John 1:3 tells us, "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." Jesus is not only the Creator, but He is the One who continues to sustain and uphold all things. The same Word that spoke creation into existence in the beginning is the Word made flesh in Jesus. As we marvel at the beauty of creation, we can praise Jesus, who, by His power, brought everything into being and holds everything together.

Today's Prayer

Father, thank You for the wonders of Your creation and for the power of Your commands. Help me to remember that all things, from the grandest galaxies to the simplest acts of beauty, point to You as our Creator. May my life reflect Your glory, and may I never forget to praise You for Your awesome power and majesty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Before You Go

As you look around at the beauty of creation, whether it’s the vastness of the stars or the small wonders in your own life, take a moment to reflect on the power of God's command. He spoke the world into being. How does this truth impact your daily life? How can you give God glory for the beauty and wonder around you today? And in this reflection, let your heart overflow with praise, acknowledging the Creator who made it all. Praise Him for His greatness, His majesty, and for revealing Himself in the wonders of creation.
