I have been studying the Bible from a young age, and one account that has always amazed me is the story of Creation. Even now, it continues to leave me in awe. Each time I return to it, there is always something new to learn and understand.
Over the years, I have come to appreciate that the creation story is not limited to the first book of the Bible. While Genesis introduces us to the beginning, Scripture as a whole continually points us back to a created world. More importantly, it points us to the One Creator who brought everything into existence.
From the Psalms to the prophets and into the New Testament, we are reminded again and again that creation itself testifies of God.
This short Bible study is designed to explore the creation story through Scripture. Each section focuses on a specific part of the creation account. In addition, it includes supporting passages that confirm and reinforce what God has revealed from the beginning. Use the study below to move through each part at your own pace.
How to Use This 9-Day Bible Study
This is a 9-day study plan, and you can move through it at your own pace. You can take your time to reflect on each section, or go through it more quickly if you prefer. I do encourage taking time with the supporting scriptures, as they often reveal layers of meaning beyond the main passage.
Grab a notebook and jot down your thoughts, questions, or any other scriptures that come to mind as you go. Reflection and note-taking will help you engage more deeply with the study and with God’s Word.
Insights from the Creation Story
1. Literal 24-Hour Day Creation
There are many points of view on creation. However, Scripture clearly presents creation as taking place over six days. The pattern of evening and morning marks each day of creation.
Some struggle to understand the miracle of creation. At times, it is viewed as if God could not accomplish such a work in a short period of time. Yet God could have created everything in a single day. Instead, He chose to work through an ordered process. In doing so, He reveals spiritual truths and teaches us more about Himself.
2. Christ as Creator
Jesus Christ is not only central to salvation. He is also central to creation itself. Through Him, all things were made (John 1:1–3; Colossians 1:16–17).
His wisdom is woven into every part of creation. This is seen in the vast expanse of the heavens as well as in the smallest details of life on earth. As we study creation, we begin to see His order, purpose, and power at work. Ultimately, creation reveals God’s character and glory.
3. Creation Declares God’s Glory and Invites Reflection
I love looking outside and appreciating God’s creation. There is something about a blue sky, a vast ocean, or a towering mountain that draws our thoughts to the Creator.
At the same time, God’s handiwork is seen in the small details. Birds chirp in the morning. The wind blows, even though we cannot see it. Every detail reflects careful design. When we take time to notice creation, we are reminded of God’s presence and power.
4. Reflecting on Creation
Sometimes it is easy to take our eyes off the Creator and focus on ourselves. In doing so, we forget that we are the created ones. This is why God reminds Job of His work in creation.
Through creation, God reveals His power, wisdom, and care. As you move through this study, pause and notice Him in the world around you. Let creation point your heart back to God and draw you into worship.
