Sweeter Than Honey
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
— Psalm 119:103 (KJV)
Reflection
Recently I had one of those meals where everything just worked together. It was a full course, rich and flavorful, and I enjoyed every bite. But then came the dessert. A slice of cake, light, creamy, sweet, and so good that I nearly forgot everything I had just eaten. It was the kind of dessert that lingers. Comforting. Pleasant. Something you want to slow down and savor.
That’s how the Word of the Lord is to me.
So many people can relate to that kind of dessert moment. Something that instantly brings comfort, joy, or peace to your heart. But as sweet as that cake was, the source of sweetness, the sugar or honey itself, is even purer, even better. That’s what the psalmist is saying here in Psalm 119. God's Word is not just good. It is better than the very best thing we can imagine.
Psalm 119 is one of the longest chapters in the Bible, but it’s filled with verse after verse declaring the beauty, power, and joy of God’s Word. It tells us how the Word comforts us, gives us understanding, corrects us, and keeps us from stumbling. And even in the correction, there is sweetness. Because God’s correction always comes from love.
Scripture gives us strength when we are weak. It gives direction when we feel lost. It comforts us in grief and convicts us when we need truth. And even in its rebuke, it restores. That’s why the Word is sweet. It nourishes our souls like nothing else can.
Other voices may be loud, but only God's Word satisfies. Only His truth sticks with you like a taste of something so good, you don’t want it to end.
If you keep reading through Psalm 119, you’ll find that the writer doesn’t just admire the Word. He lives by it. He hides it in his heart. He finds joy in it. And he clings to it like his very life depends on it. Because it does.
That is the invitation for us too.
Today's Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your Word. Thank You that it is sweeter than anything this world can offer. Help me to treasure it, to love it, and to build my life around it. Let it speak to every part of me, my thoughts, my decisions, my attitude, and my heart. Even when it challenges me, I know it is good. Let Your Word be my delight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Before You Go
The sweetness of God’s Word isn’t just in how it makes us feel, but in how it changes our lives. His truth is pure. His promises are sure. His wisdom is unmatched.
Take a moment to reflect:
When was the last time you savored God’s Word, not just read it quickly?
What verse has been especially sweet to your soul lately?
Are you allowing the Word to nourish your spirit daily?
How can you grow in your love for the Bible this week?
Let God’s Word be more than just words on a page. Let it be your daily portion, your comfort, and your delight.
Did you miss it? Don’t worry—you can still catch up.
