Shunning Evil for True Understanding
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Job 28:28
"And he said to mankind, 'The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding."
Reflection
When we read through Scripture, we often come across commands like “don’t do this” or “don’t live this way,” but we don’t always get the full insight on why we should avoid certain things. So many times in the Bible, we’re given deeper understanding as to why departing from evil is essential. It's not just about following rules or having a moral checklist, it’s about true wisdom and understanding.
Real understanding is more than just knowing what’s wrong. We see this in King David’s life. When he sinned with Bathsheba, he knew it was wrong. His attempts to cover up his sin were evidence of that. But his true repentance came from a deep understanding of the gravity of his actions and how they grieved God. It wasn’t just about the act itself, it was the realization that sin separates us from God and harms our relationship with Him. David’s heart change came when he truly grasped the weight of his sin.
That’s why we’re called to shun evil, not just because it’s wrong, but because embracing God's wisdom opens our eyes to the deeper consequences of our choices. Shunning evil leads to true understanding, and understanding leads to a deeper, more intimate relationship with God.
Today's Prayer
Lord, thank You for the wisdom You offer so freely. Help me to see the weight of my choices and the consequences of evil. Guide me to understand Your ways so I can walk in Your light. May I always seek to depart from evil and grow in understanding. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Before You Go
Think about an area of your life where you may be tempted to embrace something that leads away from God. Ask God to give you wisdom to understand the deeper impact of those choices and give you the strength to turn away from evil. Trust that as you seek His wisdom, you’ll find true understanding.
Did you miss it? Don’t worry—you can still catch up.
