Rule the Spirit
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Proverbs 16:32 - He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Reflection
When you read this verse in the context of the time, being mighty or powerful was a quality that men admired. Taking and conquering a land or a city was seen as a way to display power, strength, and authority. The people would admire you, look up to you, and recognize your dominance. So, when we read this proverb, it carries a lot of weight. It says it is better to be slow to anger than to be mighty. It says that ruling your spirit is more important than conquering a city.
This is powerful because in a world that often measures success by strength, achievement, and the ability to control others, Proverbs flips the script. True strength is not about dominating others or conquering lands. It’s about self-control, especially in the face of anger. It’s about having the power to control yourself, to not let your emotions or impulses dictate your actions.
It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that being strong means being loud, forceful, or quick to act. But wisdom teaches us that true strength lies in the ability to stay calm, to be patient, and to rule over our own spirit. That’s where real power comes from. It’s not the ability to conquer the world, it’s the ability to conquer ourselves.
