Reflecting on God's Faithfulness in the Past Year

reflecting by lake

Life's been quite a ride lately, hasn't it? I've faced my fair share of ups and downs, especially this past year. Dealing with challenges isn't new to me, but for some reason, this year felt different – maybe because of some unrealistic expectations. We all have them, and let's be honest, they often leave us a bit disappointed.  However, in the midst of my unreasonable expectations, I find joy this morning as I reflect on God's faithfulness, grace, and provisions. If you too have faced rough patches or felt a waning zeal, now is the perfect time to join me in looking back and acknowledging God's faithfulness.

1 Chronicles 16:12 (KJV): "Remember his marvelous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth.

This time of the year often prompts people to look back on events like movies, music, and news from the past year. However, today, I'm choosing a different focus. Rather than reflecting on those aspects, I want to take a step back and deeply consider all the experiences of the past year that have contributed to where I am today. It's easy to overlook the blessings and mercies of God when faced with unmet expectations and hardships.

Rediscovering Treasures

Ever found yourself digging through an attic bin to uncover a cherished item? Well, reflecting is a bit like that! You somehow forget that the treasure is nestled among family heirlooms, your kids' first items, and those "I might use it one day" things. It's only when you take the time to sift through and tidy up that you rediscover a newfound affection for that treasured item. And guess what? That's precisely what we're doing today – rediscovering all the provisions the Lord has bestowed upon us, reflecting on the lessons learned from our trials and triumphs, and acknowledging our spiritual development and growth grounded in our reliance on Jesus Christ.

God's Faithfulness

Now, let's take a moment to discuss God's faithfulness. We understand that God remains unchanging, offering us a constant and reliable source of support. His incapability to lie assures us that His promises are always true. Reflecting on the account of Abraham, reveals these attributes of our magnificent God, showcasing His unwavering faithfulness.

Genesis 15:5-6 (KJV):

And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Hebrews 6:13-15 (KJV):

"For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

These passages illustrate God's faithfulness to His promises to Abraham, despite challenges, doubts, and the passing of time. The fulfillment of the promise of a son, Isaac, and the assurance of descendants as numerous as the stars demonstrate God's unwavering faithfulness to Abraham. The intricate plan of salvation, marked by sending Jesus Christ as a promise of redemption, perfectly illustrates His commitment to reconcile us to Him. As we grasp the depth of God's faithfulness, it naturally fosters a stronger trust in Him, stirs gratitude within us, and offers a comforting assurance amid life's challenges.
