Patient Hearts in a Waiting Season
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
James 5:8 KJV
Be ye also patient. Stablish your hearts. For the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
Reflection
Is there an event or time of year that you look forward to every year? A wedding anniversary, the anticipation of a grandchild’s birth, or even a long awaited summer vacation? It can feel far away, as if it is never going to come. I always felt that way when I was waiting for my vacation time at work. Especially on stressful days, it felt like it was never coming. But then suddenly, in the blink of an eye, it arrived. And never too late.
James reminds us that waiting requires patience. The return of Jesus may seem far off when we look at the world around us, but the promise remains true. He is coming. And His timing is perfect.
But there is another part we often miss in the waiting. James tells us to stablish our hearts, to strengthen them with steady faith. Waiting is not meant to leave us idle. It is like the farmer who waits with anticipation for the harvest. He endures long days, changing weather, and dry soil that seems to hold no promise. Some mornings he looks at the sky and sees no clouds, no hint of rain, yet he keeps working. He plants. He waters. He prepares. He waits with expectation because he trusts that the harvest will come in its proper time. He does not give up simply because the evidence is not visible yet.
We can look around us and feel the same tension. Some days the difficulties of our seasons seem to make us faint, as if nothing is changing or moving forward. Yet in those very moments, God is strengthening us. He is calling us to stay faithful, to keep planting the seeds of prayer, obedience, and hope, knowing that His promises will never fail.
Today's Prayer
Lord, thank You for the reminder that Your timing is perfect. Strengthen my heart to wait with patience and expectation. Help me remain faithful in the days that feel long and difficult. Keep my eyes fixed on Your promises and my heart steady in hope. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Before You Go
Sometimes people think that “losing heart” means walking away from the faith entirely. But often it is much quieter than that. It can happen when we forget that the waiting seasons are meant to grow us, not break us. This is why James tells us to stablish our hearts. It means becoming spiritually steady, strengthened, and rooted while we wait for the Lord’s return.
Growth is rarely dramatic. Most of the time it is slow, hidden, and quietly shaping us from the inside. When you pray even when you feel tired, when you open the Word even when you're distracted, when you choose obedience even when it costs you something, your heart is being strengthened. These moments deepen your faith, even if it feels ordinary.
And as you grow, remember this gentle truth: Jesus is drawing near, and every moment of faithfulness is preparing your heart for His appearing.
Take a moment to reflect on this today:
Where is God using your waiting to grow you, refine you, or make your faith more steadfast?
Be encouraged. Every step you take toward Him, even the small and unseen ones, produces spiritual maturity. God honors the heart that keeps looking to Him, and He will use your faithfulness to strengthen you in ways you may not yet see.
