More Valuable Than Seven Sons
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Ruth 4:15 (KJV)
“And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age:
for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.”
Reflection
Gender reveal parties have become the new celebration of our day. The big question is: will it be a boy or a girl? While today’s preferences might be personal, in biblical times the desire for sons had deep cultural meaning. Sons meant the family name would live on. They meant protection, provision, and security for the household, especially the firstborn.
Naomi had two sons, and both died. She lost her husband too. The future looked bleak. No legacy. No provider. No visible path forward. You can imagine her feelings of loneliness, grief, and perhaps even shame.
But then, Ruth.
Ruth stuck by Naomi when she had every reason to walk away. And not only did she stay, she loved her. Truly loved her. The women in Bethlehem recognized it, so much so that they said Ruth was “better to thee than seven sons.”
Seven sons. That was a symbol of full prosperity and lasting legacy. If one son passed, others would remain. Your lineage, livelihood, and protection would be secure. But the love Ruth gave went beyond inheritance. It was sacrificial, loyal, and deeply honoring. And it sustained Naomi in her old age in a way no tradition could have planned.
Sometimes, the people God uses to restore and bless us don’t look like what we expected. They don’t come with titles or roles that fit the mold. But they love well. And that love becomes a reflection of God’s mercy, His provision, and His desire to restore what was lost.
Today's Prayer
Lord, help me to see the unexpected ways You restore. Teach me to value the love You place in my life, even when it doesn’t look like what I hoped for. Thank You for showing me that one faithful person can be more valuable than seven sons. May I love others with that same loyalty and depth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Before You Go
God may bring provision, restoration, or support through someone you didn’t expect. Ruth wasn’t Naomi’s blood, but she loved like family. She gave more than presence. She gave purpose.
And through her obedience and love, Naomi received something far greater than a renewed name, she became part of the line that would one day lead to Jesus. Ruth’s love helped secure a lasting legacy, not just for Naomi, but for all of us who would be redeemed through Christ.
Ask yourself: Who in my life has loved me sacrificially, or shown up when everything else was lost? Thank God for them today. And ask Him to help you love someone else in a way that’s more valuable than seven sons.
Did you miss it? Don’t worry—you can still catch up.
