Today's Scripture

Revelation 1:3 (KJV)
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Reflection

Recently I helped put together a bookcase for my mom. It was one of those precut ones made of particle board with a wood finish, holes already drilled, everything supposedly simple. Not much strength required. What was required was reading the instructions.

Some people skip instructions. They think it looks easy and they will figure it out as they go. And yes, eventually they might. But it can take longer than it should. Sometimes you have to take pieces back apart because something got turned around. Sometimes a part gets damaged because a screw was forced the wrong way. Do not ask me how I know.

That experience reminded me how useful instructions really are. They are not there to slow us down. They are there to keep things from going wrong.

Revelation 1:3 tells us there is a blessing not just in reading God’s Word, but in hearing it and keeping it. This is about more than information. It is about obedience. It is about living ready for the Lord.

God has not left us to guess our way through life. His Word shows us His ways, His warnings, and His promises. When we ignore it, we often make things harder than they need to be. We can end up going in the wrong direction, creating unnecessary trouble, and then having to undo things later.

But when we read, hear, and keep what God says, we are being prepared. We are aligning our lives with His will. We are choosing to live ready for the Lord, not just someday, but now. The verse says the time is at hand. That means this is not just about the future. It is about how we are walking with Him today.

Today's Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving us Your Word. Thank You that You do not leave us without guidance. Help me not to ignore what You have written, but to read, hear, and keep it. Teach me to live in obedience and to be living ready for the Lord in my daily life. Shape my heart through Your truth and help me follow You faithfully. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before You Go

God’s Word is not just a book to glance at. It is loving instruction from a faithful God. Jesus calls us to follow Him, and through the Holy Spirit we are taught, reminded, and guided in truth. As you spend time in Scripture, you are not just learning. You are being prepared.

Living ready for the Lord is not about fear. It is about faithfulness. It is waking up each day with a heart that wants to obey Christ, a mind that is shaped by His truth, and a life that reflects that He truly is Lord. When we live ready, our choices, attitudes, and priorities begin to line up with Him.

Revelation reminds us that the time is near. That truth has always mattered for believers. We are not promised endless time to get serious about the things of God. Remembering this helps us live with purpose, not carelessness. It helps us forgive quicker, obey sooner, and hold more tightly to what truly matters.

Jesus is not only our Savior, He is our coming King. Keeping that in mind changes how we live today. Stay in His Word. Listen closely. Let what you read shape how you live, because living ready for the Lord happens one step of obedience at a time.
