God's Unfailing Covenant

Daily Devotional
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.
An old Torah scroll with metal ends on a desk, beside a t’fillin, symbolizing the ancient covenant and the faithfulness of God's promises.
Just as the Torah scroll represents the enduring covenant of God, His promises to us remain steadfast and unbroken through all generations.

Today's Scripture

Deuteronomy 4:31 (NLT):
"For the Lord your God is a merciful God; He will not abandon you or destroy you. He will not forget the covenant with your ancestors, which He confirmed to them by oath."

Reflection

There are times when I am just extremely forgetful. I’ll say I’m going to do a task, and then forget about it. Or I’ve promised something and completely overlooked it. (I don’t do that anymore, though, lol.) But this just shows the reality of our humanity. It doesn’t take much to forget, and even the most well-meaning person can overlook something, whether it's because we’re tired or overwhelmed with life.

But here’s the great thing: God is not like us. Thank God! His memory is perfect, and His promises are unfailing. In Deuteronomy 4:31, we are reminded that the Lord is merciful and will never forget the covenant He made with His people. He won’t abandon us or destroy us. As believers in Jesus Christ, we are grafted into the tree of Israel and are partakers of His promises.

These promises are not fleeting. They are steadfast. When we sin and feel the weight of it, He does not turn away from us. In His mercy, He forgives, corrects, and never abandons us. He strengthens our faith, matures us, and shapes us more and more into the image of His Son. He lovingly rebukes, but He never leaves or destroys us. Even though our bodies will one day perish, we can take comfort in knowing that we will be made new in righteousness and glory, as promised in His covenant.

Today's Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your unfailing faithfulness and mercy. Even when I forget, You never do. You keep Your promises and have made me part of Your covenant. Help me to trust in Your unwavering word and to remember that You are always with me, even when I stumble. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Before You Go

Think about God's promises. Is there something you’re holding onto in faith that you feel hasn’t been fulfilled yet? Rest assured, God is faithful, and He will keep His promises to you. Even when it feels like you’re in the waiting, His covenant remains sure. Hold fast to His unchanging word and trust that He will fulfill what He has spoken over your life.
