Out of Darkness
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Psalm 107:14 (KJV)
“He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.
Reflection
The entire Psalm 107 is a beautiful reminder of God’s relentless love for His people. Each verse paints a picture of His faithfulness to those who call on Him, whether they’re lost, hungry, thirsty, or in despair. But for me, verse 14 stands out as a powerful image of God’s deliverance from darkness.
I once worked overnights, and anyone who’s had to do that knows how hard it can be to adjust to daytime life. Having lots of windows meant I had to use blackout shades just to sleep. But even then, I’d leave a bit of light peeking in because complete darkness didn’t sit right with me.
Now, I still prefer a bit of light, but one night I was just too tired to turn on my night light. When I woke up, the room was pitch black. As I stumbled out of bed, I couldn’t see a thing and ended up stepping on a few dog toys, loud ones. You know how that goes!
That’s exactly how life is without Christ. Complete gloom and darkness. Bound up by our own understanding, caught in our pleasures and distractions, we often don’t even realize we’re in distress. But when we hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, He brings us into the light. He delivers us from the dark corners of our lives where we are stumbling in our sin, and He breaks the chains that keep us bound.
Just like I needed that night light to navigate my room, we need Jesus to navigate through this life. Without Him, we’re walking around in the dark, unsure of what’s ahead, stepping on painful things along the way.
Today's Prayer
Lord, thank You for pulling me out of the darkness and into Your marvelous light. Thank You for breaking the chains that once bound me. Help me to walk in the light of Your truth and to never forget the deliverance You’ve given me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Before You Go
Without Christ, we are blind to the danger and struggle around us. But with Him, we have the light to guide us through every part of life. He is the One who frees us from the darkness and gives us His light.
Ask yourself: Am I walking in His light today, or am I still stumbling around in the dark?
Today, thank God for His deliverance. He’s not just a light for tomorrow, He’s your light today.
