God Pursues Us Like the Lost Sheep

Sheep grazing peacefully in a wide open field, symbolizing how God pursues us like lost sheep.

Today's Scripture

Luke 15:4–7 (KJV)

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Reflection

Have you ever lost anything that was precious to you? What did you do?
If you’re anything like me, you went on a mission to find it. You may have even enlisted help. And when it was found, that wave of relief and joy came rushing in.

I can relate to the example Jesus gives of the lost sheep. Right before He shares this parable, the Pharisees had accused Him of spending too much time with sinners. But Jesus used this moment to paint a picture of what God’s love truly looks like. He doesn't give up on us when we stray—He goes after us.

God pursues us with a love that is relentless, intentional, and full of grace. He doesn’t just find us and leave us where we are—He carries us. He rejoices over us. He nurtures, tends to us, and leads us to green pastures. As His sheep, we are under the care of a Shepherd who doesn’t abandon, but draws near.

I know His pursuit all too well. And I thank Him often for not leaving me in the places where I once was. I remember the way He drew me in—not with a loud voice, but with a gentle nudge to open His Word. The quiet correction that stirred in my heart. And sometimes, yes, even a little fire under my feet to help me keep moving forward in faith. That’s the kind of Shepherd we have—one who loves us enough to find us, restore us, and keep working in us daily.

He doesn’t stop once we’re found. He stays close. He leads. He comforts. And He never lets go.

Today's Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for pursuing me even when I wandered far. Thank You for not leaving me lost, but for finding me and bringing me home to You. I praise You for the love that seeks and the joy that welcomes. Help me to remember how precious I am in Your eyes and to walk closely with You each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Before You Go

If you belong to Christ, you can rest assured—you were not only found, but you are still being carried. His pursuit didn’t end at salvation. He continues to seek, to shepherd, and to love you every step of the way.

Take a moment today to remember what it felt like when you were the lost sheep. When life was dark, when hope felt far off, and when sin had a grip on your heart. Think about how Jesus met you in that place—how He called you, carried you, and continues to care for you. That same love is still at work in you today.

And then, think about the lost sheep in your life—those who don’t yet know the Shepherd’s voice. Ask God to give you a heart like His, one that sees them not as hopeless, but as dearly loved and worth pursuing. Whether it’s a friend, a family member, or even a stranger, pray for them, love them, and be ready to point them to the Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to go after the one.
