Today's Scripture
"And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother."
Genesis 35:1
Reflection
Have you ever been in a place where you just didn’t know what to do or where to go? A difficult situation that seems beyond your control? Maybe it was family, your job, or a friendship that felt like it was too much to handle. I know I have. There are times I’ve felt overwhelmed, thinking, I just want to escape to a deserted island and get away from it all.
Jacob had his own version of this. He wasn’t fleeing from Esau anymore, by the time we reach Genesis 35, that issue was behind him. But now, he was facing a new challenge. His daughter had been mistreated, and his sons had acted out in ways that put Jacob and his household in danger. So, here he was, faced with another serious situation. But in the midst of this, God saw Jacob’s distress. God told him to move to Bethel, a place where Jacob had once encountered and where God had revealed Himself years before.
This moment speaks to us in our own struggles. God hears us in our distress, just as He heard Jacob. We may not always know what to do, but God is faithful to lead us. He doesn’t just leave us in the middle of our mess; He calls us out of it, guiding us to a place where we can encounter His peace and remember His promises.
Just like He called Jacob to return to Bethel, the place of worship and remembrance, God calls us back to Himself, back to a place where we can rest in His goodness. When things are hard, we can trust Him to lead us to places where He can reveal Himself again. He sees us, He hears us, and He will always lead us to what we need most.
Today's Prayer
Lord, thank You for hearing me in my distress. Even when I’m uncertain about the next step, I trust that You’re leading me toward places of peace and spiritual renewal. Help me follow Your direction, just like You called Jacob back to Bethel. Guide me to places where I can rest in Your presence and remember Your goodness. Thank You for Your faithfulness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Before You Go
Think about a time when God guided you during a challenging season. How did His direction lead you to a place of peace or restoration? Today, ask Him to guide you through any current struggles you’re facing, knowing that He hears and sees you.
Ask yourself: How can I trust God more to lead me to the right place, even when life feels overwhelming?
Did you miss it? Don’t worry—you can still catch up.
