Fear the Right One
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!
— Luke 12:5 (ESV)
Reflection
The lion has often been used as a symbol of bravery, courage, and fearlessness. Battling even the largest of animals. This is something to be admired, especially in this present time where believers are exchanging truth for fear. Most often when the word “fear” is used, it brings to mind the idea of fright. But fear can also carry other emotions. Like fearing the loss of a child’s affection, so we surrender our convictions to conform to theirs. Or fearing the rejection of friends, so we keep quiet about truth to avoid being called judgmental or too strict.
I had an experience like this where I had to lightly rebuke a friend. I have to say it did not go well at the time, but I cannot fear losing a friend when I am trying to imitate Christ. I am sure this is something we all face at some point. Are you too Christian for your Christian family or friends? We live in a time where Christianity and worldliness are becoming blended.
But this scripture reminds us that there is One we should fear above all. Jesus said not to fear those who can kill the body, but to fear the One who has authority over both body and soul. That is not a threat. It is a reminder of who truly holds power. Our fear should not be shaped by people or culture, but by our reverence for God who is holy, just, and eternal.
Jesus was not trying to frighten us. He was realigning our perspective. The One who holds our eternity deserves our highest honor. The same God who has power to judge is also full of mercy and love. If we are going to fear anyone, let it be the One who gave everything to save us.
Today's Prayer
Lord, I want to fear You above all others. Help me to stand for truth even when it is hard. Let me never trade obedience for approval or silence truth out of fear. You are holy, You are worthy, and I choose to honor You with my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Before You Go
Being bold for Christ is not always easy, but it is always right. Do not let the fear of losing people cause you to lose sight of the One who holds eternity. Let your reverence for God shape your convictions and your courage.
Jesus Himself stood boldly before men, knowing they would reject Him. He did not soften the truth, and He did not fear losing favor.
Take a moment to reflect:
Where have you been tempted to shrink back out of fear?
Is there a truth you have avoided sharing because of how others may respond?
Are you fearing people more than God?
Be encouraged. God sees your faithfulness, and He will strengthen you to stand. Even when it is hard, even when you feel alone, He is with you.
