Today's Scripture

Psalm 119:16 (KJV)
"I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word."

Reflection

There are a few things in life that bring me joy, but I’ll be honest. The laws of the land are not one of them. I’m glad they exist because they help keep things in order. But I don’t think about them unless I’m driving and trying not to speed or filling out some kind of paperwork. I don’t love the law. I just live under it.

But that’s not how it should be with God’s Word.

I started thinking about people who do love the law. Maybe an attorney who’s spent years studying it. Someone who can spend hours talking about cases, policies, and what it all means. They know it, live in it, and even enjoy it. That’s the kind of relationship we’re meant to have with the Word of God.

The writer of Psalm 119 wasn’t just obeying out of obligation. He found pleasure in it. He loved God's Word. Every command, every statute, every truth reflected who God is. Even when the words were challenging, he could still see the beauty behind them.

Sometimes we treat the Bible like a rulebook. Like something we need to keep us in line. But it’s so much more. The Word of God is alive. It nourishes us. It comforts, corrects, and strengthens us. It reminds us of who God is and who we are in Him.

Delighting in God’s Word daily means we don’t just reach for it when things are falling apart. It means we treasure it. We turn to it because we want to. Because we’ve tasted the goodness in it and we know nothing else satisfies like the truth of God.

There have been seasons in my life where the Bible felt like a checklist. I would read a few verses, say a quick prayer, and move on. But when life got heavy and everything familiar started to shift, the Word became something more. It became the steady place I returned to. The words came alive. They met me right where I was.

God’s Word is not a burden. It is a gift. A holy invitation to know the heart of the One who made us. When we take time to delight in it, we draw closer to Him. Not out of duty, but out of love.

Today's Prayer

Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Help me not to treat it like a task but to treasure it. Grow in me a hunger to read, to listen, and to understand. Let Your Word shape how I think, how I speak, and how I live. Teach me to delight in it daily, not out of pressure but out of love for You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Before You Go

Delighting in God’s Word daily doesn’t come from duty. It comes from knowing the One who speaks through every page.

If the Bible has felt dry or distant lately, ask the Lord to renew your hunger for it. Start small. Sit with a verse. Let it speak. Let it settle.

His Word is more than words. It is life, and it was written for you.
