Chosen to Be His Friend
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
John 15:16 (NLT):
"You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name."
Reflection
I was a lonely child. I had a brother, but when he was outside, he was playing with his friends. There weren’t many girls in my neighborhood, so my brother’s friends became like friends to me, at least, in my eyes. Of course, there were times when young girls would move into the area, and as young people do, they latch onto you and choose you as a friend.
There’s something special about being chosen, isn’t there? It feels validating, reassuring, and even comforting to be picked. You don’t feel like you’re on the sidelines anymore. You’re part of something. And that’s exactly what Jesus does for us in John 15:16. He tells us that He chose us. He didn’t just invite us to follow Him or ask us to come along. He chose us for a purpose. He appointed us to go and produce lasting fruit.
We didn’t choose Jesus. He chose us. And that choice was not random or accidental. It was intentional, filled with purpose. When we understand that we’ve been chosen by God, it changes how we view our role in His kingdom. We are meant to bear fruit, fruit that lasts, fruit that glorifies God. And when we live out this purpose, we have the assurance that the Father will give us whatever we ask for in Jesus’ name.
Today's Prayer
Lord, thank You for calling me Your friend. I wouldn’t have known You unless You first chose me. Thank You for picking me out of love and inviting me into a relationship with You. I know that You have a purpose for my life, to bear lasting fruit and to walk in Your love. Help me to live out that calling each day and to stay close to You, trusting that everything I need is found in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Before You Go
Think about what it means to be chosen by God as His friend. Are you living in the purpose He has for you? A good friend equips, supports, and encourages us, and Jesus does all of this for us. He supplies us with everything we need to bear fruit and walk faithfully in His calling. Take a moment to reflect on the fruit He’s calling you to bear, and ask Him to help you walk faithfully in that calling, knowing He’s right there with you every step of the way.
Did you miss it? Don’t worry—you can still catch up.
