When Your Changed Life No Longer Makes Sense
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you
— 1 Peter 4:4 (KJV)
Reflection
There was a woman who was on a phone call with a friend she had not spoken to in quite some time. As they talked, her friend encouraged her to come out and party like they used to. She could not understand why her friend seemed so distant lately, why she was always unavailable. When she shared that her life had changed and that she had placed her faith in Jesus Christ, her friend brushed it off. She explained that she had her own beliefs and did not need religion.
Over time, the phone calls became fewer and farther between. When they did speak, her friend would talk about her life and all the good times she was having. But as soon as the conversation turned to her new life in Christ, the call would suddenly end.
Have you ever had words like these hurled at you. Self righteous. Judgmental. Holier than thou. Sometimes even worse. These words can hurt, especially when they come from people you once shared deep connections with, even family members. They do not understand the change. You used to live the same way they did. Partying. Chasing after what pleased you. Living life on your own terms without regard for God.
Scripture tells us they think it strange that you no longer run with them. Not because you are condemning them, but because your life now reflects a different allegiance. The gospel of Jesus Christ brings transformation. When Christ saves us, our desires begin to change. What once satisfied us no longer holds the same appeal. This change can be confusing and even threatening to those who remain where we once were.
But this is not something to be ashamed of. It is evidence that God has done a work in your heart. You are not called to return to your old life to keep the peace. You are called to walk faithfully in the new life Christ has given you.
It is also important to remember that at one point, we all lived without regard for God. None of us came to Christ because we were better, wiser, or more deserving. We came because God was merciful. This is why we are called to continue in prayer for those who speak against us or walk away from us. The same gospel that changed our hearts is powerful enough to reach theirs as well. Our role is not to convince or argue, but to remain faithful, prayerful, and willing to love, trusting God to do the work only He can do.
Today's Prayer
Lord, thank You for the work You have done in my heart through the gospel of Jesus Christ. When I am misunderstood or spoken against because of my faith, help me to respond with humility and love. Strengthen me to remain faithful even when old relationships change or fade. Let my life be a testimony of Your transforming power, and give me wisdom to speak truth with grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Before You Go
Have you noticed how following Christ sometimes creates distance where there once was closeness. This does not mean you have failed or done something wrong. It often means God is continuing His work in you. Living for Christ will not always be understood, but it will always be worth it. Today, be encouraged to stand firm in the life Christ has given you. Even when others think it strange, remember that your hope, identity, and future are now found in Him.
