Free 52-Week Bible Reading Plan for Daily Reading

I’ve been reading Scripture for most of my life, and yet, even after more than 40 years, the Bible still surprises me. Some days I think, “I don’t remember reading that before,” and other days, “Ah, so that’s what this means!” I love mixing it up, Old Testament one day, New Testament the next, so I created this free bible reading plan for anyone who likes a little variety in their daily Scripture journey.

How to Use This 52-Week Varied Bible Reading Plan

This free daily Bible reading plan is designed to give a balanced and nourishing intake of Scripture over the course of one year. Rather than reading straight through the Bible in order, this plan varies the readings so you encounter:

  • The Law and Historical books

  • The Prophets

  • Wisdom books and Psalms

  • The Gospels and New Testament letters

This variety helps keep your reading fresh while allowing Scripture to interpret Scripture and speak into different areas of life throughout the week.

Daily Reading Structure

  • Each week includes seven daily readings.

  • The readings are intentionally mixed to provide balance and spiritual depth.

  • Some days include shorter Wisdom or Psalm readings to encourage reflection and prayer.

  • Occasional catch-up or review days are included to provide grace if you fall behind.

You may read at any time of day, morning, afternoon, or evening. Consistency matters more than speed.

Checking Off Your Reading

  • As you complete each day’s reading, check it off.

  • This helps you stay accountable and see progress over time.

  • If you miss a day, don’t be discouraged, simply continue with the next reading or use a catch-up day.

This plan is meant to support faithfulness, not perfection.

Journaling & Reflection (Highly Encouraged)

Alongside this plan, it is best to keep a journal or notebook. Use it to:

  • Write down questions that arise while reading

  • Record verses that stand out to you

  • Note themes, repeated ideas, or promises from God

  • Jot down prayers, reflections, or personal applications

You don’t need to write every day, write as the Spirit leads.

Helpful Tips for the Year

  • Pray briefly before you begin reading, asking God for understanding and wisdom.

  • Read slowly and thoughtfully rather than rushing to finish.

  • Some passages may be challenging, mark them and return later.

  • Allow Scripture to shape your thoughts, attitudes, and actions.

  • Remember: transformation comes through faithful, daily exposure to God’s Word.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Psalm 119:105

Word of Encouragement

This plan is not about perfection or keeping pace, it is about faithful engagement with God’s Word.

If you miss a day, fall behind, or cannot finish a reading, do not be discouraged. You are free to veer off course and rejoin at any time. God’s Word is always ready to meet you where you are.

You may also:

  • Split a day’s reading between morning and evening

  • Read ahead when you have extra time or desire to continue

  • Slow down during busy seasons and catch up later

Reading ahead can be especially helpful, as it creates margin for days when life gets full or unexpected.

Above all, remember that this plan is a guide, not a rule. The goal is not to finish a schedule, but to grow in your relationship with God.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” — Colossians 3:16
