Better to Trust in the Lord

Put your confidence in the Lord, who is so true and faithful.

Today's Scripture

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.
— Psalm 118:8-9 (KJV)

Reflection

Today's headlines are filled with stories and accounts of betrayal. People we once held in high esteem and thought we could trust have let us down. Think of the accountant who steals from clients, or the parent who abuses their own children. While a person's character may shine brightly on the outside, the hidden nature of the heart cannot be seen.
Think about your own hidden thoughts and struggles. While there are people in our lives who we know are trustworthy, and we should always strive to live faithfully and with integrity, our ultimate confidence should rest in Christ.
The truth is that people will fail us. They will let us down. Our leaders have the same nature as we do, and just like us, they fall short. This is why I love the gospel. There is only one who has lived a perfect life, sinless, righteous, and trustworthy. There is only one who we can truly say, without a doubt, is above reproach, that is Jesus.
Some of us have been hurt and let down by people we trusted; close friends, parents, teachers, and maybe even ourselves. But no matter how deep that pain may run, we can find comfort in knowing that there is one who is always trustworthy and faithful.
Look to the Lord today. Place your confidence and trust in Him, knowing that He is the only one who will never fail you. Even when the world around you seems unstable, He is the solid rock on which we can stand.

Today's Prayer

Father, thank You for being a trustworthy refuge. Help me to put my trust fully in You, knowing that You are faithful and true, even when people let me down. Strengthen my faith and remind me daily of Your goodness and righteousness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Before You Go

When we place our trust in people, we will inevitably be disappointed because everyone has the potential to fail us. But when we place our trust in the Lord, we are anchored in a refuge that never changes. No matter what happens around us, God is trustworthy. Reflect on any areas in your life where you’ve placed your trust in others or even in yourself. How can you shift that confidence to Christ, knowing that He will never fail you?
