New Heavens and a New Earth

Today's Scripture
Isaiah 65:17 (KJV)
For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
Reflection
So much of our focus is on what we see and feel. We think about our earthly desires and accomplishments, our physical needs like food and clothing, and even the extras that make life more comfortable. And if we are being honest, a lot of our prayer lives can center around those same things.
Now there is nothing wrong with bringing those things to God. I truly believe nothing is too small to pray about or to ask Him for. He cares about every part of our lives. But sometimes I forget just how temporary all of it is.
The things we work toward, the things we want, and even the things we hold on to so tightly are not lasting. They can feel so important in the moment, but they do not carry the weight of eternity. Even this earth and the heavens around it, as vast and beautiful as they are, are not permanent.
That is what makes this verse so powerful. God speaks about creating new heavens and a new earth, something entirely different from what we know now. And when you connect that with the promise in 2 Peter 3:13, that righteousness will dwell there, it shifts your perspective.
It reminds you that what is coming is far greater than what we are experiencing now.
We spend so much time focused on what is in front of us, but God is pointing us forward. Not to take away from today, but to remind us that this is not all there is. There is something greater, something lasting, something that will not fade or pass away.
And when you begin to see that, it starts to change how you hold on to the things of this life and how you look toward what God has promised.
Today's Prayer
Lord, I praise You for the promise of what is to come. You are not only the God of today, but the God who has prepared something far greater than anything I see now.
Thank You for caring about my daily needs, but also reminding me that this world is not my final home. Help me not to become so focused on what is temporary that I lose sight of what is eternal.
Teach me to desire what You desire. Fill my heart with a longing for righteousness, wisdom, and a deeper relationship with You. Help my prayers to reflect what truly matters and to seek the things that will last.
Through Jesus Christ, thank You for the eternal riches that are already available to me.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Before You Go
It is easy to get caught up in what we see right now. The things around us feel real, important, and lasting, but Scripture reminds us that all of this is temporary. What we see now will not remain. It is all subject to change, and one day it will be gone.
That truth is not meant to discourage us, but to redirect us. It helps us see that what we often give so much attention to is not where our hope should rest. There is something far greater ahead, something that will not fade or be taken away.
And that is where our focus can begin to shift, even now.
We do not have to wait to value what is eternal. We can begin today by setting our hearts on what truly lasts. That shows up even in how we pray. Instead of only focusing on what is temporary, we can begin to ask for what has eternal value. More wisdom, more righteousness, a deeper walk with God, and a heart that desires what He desires.
Through Jesus Christ, we have access to riches that go far beyond anything this world can offer. These are the things that will remain. These are the things that shape us and prepare us for what is to come.
So as you go through your day, remember that what you see is not the final picture. Let that truth guide your focus, and let it shape your prayers toward what will last forever.
