Hearing What Wisdom Speaks
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Ecclesiastes 7:5 KJV
It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
Reflection
No one enjoys being told they are wrong. Correction can feel uncomfortable and even unwanted. Sometimes pride gets in the way, and sometimes we simply enjoy what we are doing and do not recognize the harm in it. It feels easier to lean toward words that sound pleasant, even when they encourage us to drift toward what does not honor God.
The Preacher in Ecclesiastes tells us that it is better to hear the rebuke of the wise. It may sharpen us. It may challenge us. It may reveal something we did not want to see. But it directs us toward life. The song of fools may sound good for a moment, but it never leads to anything lasting. It entertains for a season but leaves the heart empty.
The song of fools can show up in many ways. It can come through voices that flatter us, friends who tell us to follow whatever feels right, influences that encourage us to justify sin, or teachings that twist Scripture to match personal desires. These voices can grow loud if we let them, and they can drown out the quiet, steady voice of wisdom that calls us back to truth.
There are moments when even well known Christian leaders face this conflict. A popular figure may be lovingly corrected for a sinful choice, yet instead of receiving the rebuke of the wise, they may seek counsel that pleases the flesh. Over time, what once was a firmly held biblical belief becomes weakened, excused, or completely changed because the person chose comforting voices instead of truthful ones. This shows how powerful the song of fools can be when someone opens their heart to it.
God uses wise correction to protect us and mature us. When we grow in unity with other believers, we begin to see correction as an expression of love. It is a reminder that God cares for us enough to guide us back when we wander. As we receive truth with humility and offer gentle encouragement to others, God is glorified in our relationships and in the care we show one another.
Today's Prayer
Father, give me a humble heart that listens for wisdom. Help me recognize the voices that lead me toward Your truth. Strengthen me to receive correction with grace and to grow through it. Thank You for surrounding me with people who speak truth in love. Help me walk in unity, compassion, and understanding so that my life brings honor to You. In Jesus name, Amen.
Before You Go
Take a moment today to reflect on the voices that shape your decisions, your thoughts, and even your beliefs. Some words may feel pleasant for a time, yet they quietly pull your heart away from what honors God. Ask the Lord to help you recognize when the song of fools is trying to drown out the steady truth He places before you. Wisdom may not always feel easy, but it always strengthens, protects, and restores.
Consider how God might be inviting you to choose voices that lead you closer to Him and closer to unity with others. Let this simple moment of reflection guide you toward wisdom, gentle encouragement, and the shared care that glorifies God in the life of His people.
Did you miss it? Don’t worry—you can still catch up.
