Knowing the Certainty of His Truth
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, that thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
— Luke 1:1-4 (KJV)
Reflection
I’m not always the best at remembering things, especially as time goes on, but there are moments in life that stay with you. One memory that has stuck with me for years is from when I was a kid. It was a cool fall day, and I decided to join the other kids from the neighborhood who were out playing in the field. They were always tossing footballs or running around, especially during the fall, but I wasn’t really interested in playing their game. I just wanted to be close to the action, to be part of the group, so I put on my favorite cream-colored puffy coat and walked out to the field.
I remember lying down on the grass, hands tucked into my coat pockets, and staring up at the clear blue sky. The sun was shining brightly, warming my face despite the chill in the air. There was nothing extraordinary happening, but I felt a deep sense of peace and comfort. No big event or dramatic moment, just a simple, serene feeling that has stuck with me.
This is the kind of certainty I think Luke was aiming for when he wrote to Theophilus. Luke wanted him, and all of us, to understand the certainty of the truth that had been taught. He wasn’t writing a story; he was documenting the real, firsthand accounts of those who had witnessed everything. The events Luke recorded were not based on hearsay or passing rumors, but on the genuine, certain experiences of those who saw Jesus' life, death, and resurrection up close. Just as I still remember that day in the field with clarity, Luke’s purpose was to share with Theophilus the unshakable certainty of what was taught. These weren’t just words; they were lived experiences that had been passed down, from one person to another, with confidence and truth.
Like my memory of that fall day, God's truth is something we can rely on. Even when life seems ordinary or uneventful, we can be certain of His presence and His promises. Just as the eyewitnesses were certain of what they experienced, we can have the same certainty in the truth of God's Word.
Today's Prayer
Lord, thank You for the certainty of Your Word and the truth it holds. Just as the eyewitnesses of Jesus' life and work could stand firm in what they saw and experienced, help me to rest in the certainty of Your promises. When the world feels uncertain, may I be reminded of Your unshakable truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Before You Go
Pause for a moment and reflect on a memory, perhaps one that seemed ordinary at the time but has stayed with you because of the peace or certainty it gave you. What made that moment unforgettable? Let it remind you of the certainty of God's presence and the unshakable truth He offers. Just as we can trust the eyewitnesses who shared the truth of Jesus' life, we can also trust the certainty of His presence in our lives today. God's truth is as reliable as the memories of those who saw it firsthand.
