Hearing the Truth
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears God's words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.
— John 8:46-47
Reflection
Jesus’ words in John 8:46-47 were not spoken lightly. He was confronting the people who refused to hear the truth, even though He was standing right before them. The people Jesus was speaking to had built their lives on their traditions, their rituals, and their own understanding of God. But despite hearing the truth directly from Jesus, they chose to remain deaf to it. Why? Because their hearts were hardened, and their minds were set on what they believed rather than what Jesus was revealing.
When He asks, "Which of you convicts Me of sin?" He’s making a powerful statement. Jesus was sinless, the perfect embodiment of God’s truth. He was challenging them to find any fault in His life or teachings, but they couldn’t. Yet they still rejected Him. Why? Because they preferred the comfort of their own beliefs over the discomfort of truth.
I can relate to this. There have been times in my life when I’ve closed my heart to God’s truth so I could justify my actions or cling to what was familiar, even if it wasn’t right. But no matter how much I tried to hide from it, the truth never changed. Jesus is the Truth, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Jesus goes on to say, "He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God." This isn’t just about hearing sound. This is about receiving, understanding, and following what God says. When we are of God, we don’t just hear the words, we listen with open hearts, ready to obey. We are not left in the dark. Jesus, the Truth, has made Himself known to us. We can trust that He will always lead us into all truth, if we’re willing to hear and follow.
Today's Prayer
Lord, help me hear Your voice above all the distractions around me. Open my heart to Your truth and help me follow it with all my strength. May I listen like a student longing for the wisdom of their teacher, and may I never turn away from Your truth, no matter the cost. In Jesus Name, Amen
Before You Go
Take a moment to reflect on areas in your life where you may be resisting Jesus’ truth. Are there things you’ve chosen to ignore because they challenge your beliefs or actions? Remember, Jesus is the Truth. He is not just telling us what’s right, He is the way to true life. Ask Him to reveal those areas where you need to listen more closely and walk more faithfully in His truth. Trust that He will guide you, step by step, into deeper understanding and freedom.
Did you miss it? Don’t worry—you can still catch up.
