Standing for Christ No Matter the Cost

Daily Devotional
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.
A man in white holding a white flag stands on a large rock surrounded by mountains, symbolizing surrender and courage in faith.
True surrender to Christ often requires boldness, not comfort.

Today's Scripture

Acts 21:13 (KJV)
“Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Reflection

When my sons went into the military, I experienced a mix of emotions. One of them was a quiet fear, because I knew there was always the possibility of harm. My feelings were very different from theirs. They were excited, ready to begin a new chapter, even understanding the risks.

Sometimes others are well-meaning when they try to protect us. The believers who surrounded Paul were worried about what would happen to him in Jerusalem. They begged him not to go. But Paul understood the cost. From the moment of his calling, he faced persecution and suffering. He was not naive. He had already endured much, and he knew more was coming.

But his commitment to Christ was unshakable.

Many of us may never face this kind of threat or surrender. But Paul’s words still challenge us. “I am ready…” Are we?

Sometimes standing for Christ doesn’t mean physical harm. Sometimes it means losing a friendship because you no longer participate in the same lifestyle. It might mean letting go of certain habits or entertainment choices that no longer reflect your values. Maybe it’s speaking up when the truth of God’s Word is being mocked or misunderstood. Maybe it’s lovingly but firmly refusing to compromise in a relationship or in a workplace decision.

Standing for Christ might not cost you your life, but it will cost you something.
And yet, Christ is worth everything.

Today's Prayer

Lord, help me to be bold in my commitment to You. Give me the courage to stand for Christ, no matter the cost. Let my life be a living witness of Your truth and love. Teach me not to fear what I may lose, but to rejoice in what I have gained in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Before You Go

Paul wasn’t reckless. He was resolved. He had already given his life to Christ, so there was nothing left to hold back. You don’t need to seek danger to be courageous. You simply need to be faithful.

Ask yourself: What’s one area of my life where I need to stop shrinking back and start standing for Christ?
Today, make a bold step. Whether it’s in speech, in action, or in letting something go, do it because Jesus is worth it.
