When You Are Weary, God Is Not

I'm writing this today, and right now I am tired. Not just a little tired, either. Part of me wants to wrap myself up in the comforter and go to sleep. Sometimes we have days when the cares of life seem to pile up and remind us of how weak we really are and how little control we have over everything happening around us.

If someone were to rely on me today, they probably would not get my best. I might be able to help in some small way, but I don't have much to give. If I can barely stand, how can I pick someone else up too? There are times when our limitations become so obvious that we cannot pretend we have everything handled.

God does not become depleted by the work of creation or exhausted by the needs of His people.

That is why Isaiah 40:28 brings me comfort. The Lord is not like us. He is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth, and He does not faint or grow weary. He does not become depleted by the work of creation, exhausted by the needs of His people, or overwhelmed by the troubles of this world. His power is not reduced by the number of problems brought before Him.

Sometimes we can live as though God cannot handle what concerns us. We may not say that directly, but our worry can reveal that we have placed limits on Him in our thoughts. A situation may seem too complicated, too painful, or too far gone for us to imagine how it could possibly be resolved. Yet the Lord is never faced with a problem that exceeds His power or understanding.

This reminder was important for Jacob, the house of Israel. They had experienced hardship and reached a point where they felt overlooked. Their circumstances made them question whether the Lord saw what they were enduring or whether He was paying attention to their troubles. Weariness can do that to us. When we have carried something for a long time, God's silence may begin to feel like absence, even when He has not moved.

Feelings vs. Eternal Truth

But our feelings do not determine the truth about God. He remains the everlasting Lord whether we feel encouraged or discouraged. He sees what we cannot see, understands what we cannot understand, and knows the full story when we are only able to see one difficult part of it. We may not understand His timing or His methods, but we can trust His wisdom.

I find that especially comforting today because I do not need to pretend that I am stronger than I am. I can admit that I am tired and still remember that God is faithful. My weakness does not make Him weak, and my inability to control everything does not mean that He has lost control.

Resting in His Strength

There is a difference between what I can carry and what the Lord can carry. I may need to rest before I can help someone else, but God never needs to recover from being overwhelmed. He does not need more strength, more knowledge, or a better understanding of what to do. He is already everything He has always been.

So today, instead of allowing my weariness to become the measure of what is possible, I want to remember the One whose strength never fails. I may not have much to give right now, but I can still turn to Him. And even when I cannot see how things will work out, I can rest in the truth that the everlasting God is neither faint nor weary.

When you have reached the end of your strength—
Rest in the God who never grows weary.

Before You Go

Some days we have more to give than others. There will be times when we feel strong and capable, and there will be other days when even ordinary responsibilities seem difficult. We don't have to be ashamed of those differences. Being tired does not make us failures, and having limits does not make us less valuable to God.

What matters is remembering where our strength comes from.

The Lord knows what today has required of you, and He is not disappointed because you are weary. You can come to Him just as you are, without pretending that you have everything under control. His strength is not measured by how strong you feel.

When I am tired and worn down, I am thankful that I do not have to face life in my own strength. Jesus understands our weakness, and He invites us to come to Him rather than struggle as though everything depends on us.

He said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, KJV). That invitation reminds me that our weariness does not disqualify us from coming to Christ. It is one more reason to draw near to Him.

Jesus is not distant from our struggles. He knows what it means to live in this world, to experience sorrow, and to carry the weight of suffering. Yet He remains faithful, compassionate, and strong enough to sustain us when we have reached the end of our own strength.

Bringing Your Weariness to Jesus

So if you are weary today, bring that weariness to Jesus. You do not have to pretend you are doing better than you are, and you do not have to find the strength to carry everything before you come to Him. Rest in His care, trust His wisdom, and remember that the everlasting God has given us a Savior who will never turn us away.
