A Greater Story
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

The Scripture
Ephesians 1:11 (KJV)
“In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.”
Reflection
Whenever I find myself facing a difficult situation, my mind immediately shifts into problem-solving mode. I start thinking about what I should do next, what I could have done differently, or how I can fix whatever is in front of me. Before long, my thoughts become completely consumed with finding a solution, and if I'm not careful, I begin to feel overwhelmed, discouraged, and even a little alone.
The more I focus on the problem, the larger it seems to become.
I think many of us are like that. We become so occupied with today's burden that we lose sight of the greater story God is writing. Our prayers become centered on escaping the difficulty, our thoughts revolve around finding an answer, and our hearts slowly drift away from remembering the wonderful truths that God has already given us.
That is one reason I love the opening chapter of Ephesians.
Paul reminds believers that long before we ever faced today's struggle, God was already at work. Before we were born, before we experienced our first joy or our first sorrow, before this world was even created, God's plan of redemption through Jesus Christ had already been established.
What comfort that brings.
My life is not the result of chance. I am not here because of some random turn of events or an unexpected twist in history. Even my salvation was never God's last-minute solution to mankind's sin. Before the foundation of the world, He purposed to redeem a people through His Son, and through Christ we have obtained an inheritance that can never be taken away.
A Sovereign Plan
That changes the way I look at today's problems.
The difficulties I face are real, but they are not the whole story. They are only one page in the account God is writing. My future does not rest in my ability to solve every problem that comes my way. It rests in the God who works all things after the counsel of His own will.
Notice those words. "All things." Not just the joyful seasons. Not only the victories.
An Anchor for the Soul
That does not mean we always understand His purposes, but it does mean we can trust the One who does.
Because of Jesus Christ, we already possess an inheritance that this world cannot offer and cannot take away. Every promise God has made finds its fulfillment in Him. Our hope is not anchored in circumstances becoming easier. It is anchored in the finished work of Christ and the glorious future He has secured for those who belong to Him.
When I remember that, my perspective begins to change. The problem in front of me no longer becomes the biggest thing in my life. God does.
His grace becomes greater than my fear. His promises become louder than my doubts. His eternal purpose becomes more certain than my temporary circumstances.
The difficulties we face are only one page in the account God is writing.
Our future rests securely in the One who works all things after His own will.
Today’s Prayer
Father, when my heart becomes consumed with today's problems, help me lift my eyes to Your eternal purpose. Thank You for choosing me in Christ and giving me an inheritance that will never fade away. Help me trust that You are working all things according to Your perfect wisdom, even when I cannot yet understand what You are doing. Keep my heart fixed upon Your glorious grace and the hope I have in Jesus Christ. In His name I pray, amen.
Before You Go
Perhaps today you are carrying a burden that seems too heavy to bear. Remember that this difficult season is not the end of your story. The God who planned your redemption before the foundation of the world has not forgotten you today.
Through Jesus Christ, you belong to Him, you have an eternal inheritance, and your future is secure in His hands. Lift your eyes beyond today's circumstances and rest in the glorious grace of the One who is faithfully accomplishing His eternal purpose, one day at a time.
