Today's Scripture

Lamentations 3:24 (KJV)
The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

Reflection

When I was a child, I remember a time when snacks were being handed out. It was something simple, just a cookie and some juice. But there was one condition. Your parent had to pay for it. If they did not, you did not receive anything.

At that age, I did not fully understand why. I just remember watching as the snacks were passed out to the other children, and in my five year old mind, I kept thinking, “Where is mine?”

What stayed with me was not just the moment, but the feeling. It was a feeling of lack, like something was missing, like I had been left out of something everyone else was receiving. Even as we grow older, that feeling can still follow us.

We may not be waiting for a snack, but we can find ourselves looking around at others and feeling like something is missing in our own lives. It could be opportunities, relationships, provision, or even peace. And in those moments, it is easy to believe that we are lacking. But Lamentations 3:24 shifts our perspective completely.

“The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.”

A portion is what is assigned to you. It is what belongs to you. And this verse reminds us that what we have been given is not something temporary or limited. We have been given the Lord Himself.

That changes everything.

Because when the Lord is your portion, you are not lacking. You are not overlooked. You are not missing out. What you have in Him is greater than anything this world can offer.

This kind of truth does not always come naturally. It is something your soul has to say, just like the verse says, “saith my soul.” It is a declaration. A reminder we speak to ourselves when feelings try to tell us otherwise.

Instead of looking around and asking, “Where is mine?” we begin to rest in what we already have. The Lord is my portion. And because of that, we can hope in Him. Not in what we see, not in what we feel we are missing, but in the One who is more than enough.

Today's Prayer

Lord, I praise You for being my portion. You are not limited, lacking, or temporary. You are more than enough for me in every season.

Forgive me for the times I have looked around and felt like something was missing, as if I did not have what I needed. Remind my heart of what is true, that in having You, I have everything that truly matters.

Thank You for Your faithfulness, Your presence, and Your provision in my life. Teach my soul to rest in You and to say with confidence that You are my portion.

Help me to place my hope fully in You, not in circumstances or what I see, but in who You are.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before You Go

When you feel that sense of lack today, remember what is already yours. The Lord is your portion.

And when we look to Jesus, we see exactly what that means. In Him, we have been brought near, given life, and filled with something this world could never offer. He is not a small portion or a temporary one. He is full, complete, and eternal. You are not left out. You are not without.

Because in Christ, you have been given more than enough. So when your mind starts to wander and compare, bring it back to this truth and let your hope rest fully in Him.
