Build on the Rock, Not the Sand
Be encouraged by today’s Scripture reflection and prayer.

Today's Scripture
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.
— Matthew 7:24 (KJV)
Reflection
In God's creation on this earth are many beautiful landscapes, and one of them, which I am fortunate to live near, is the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s what we call the beach.
Now there are so many beautiful beaches all along the shore, most of them lined with miles and miles of sand. And if you have ever walked on dry sand, you know how difficult that can be. It is the part of the beach that I do not like. Your feet sink down with each step, and it feels unstable. You need strong muscles just to make it across to the shore.
But once you reach the shoreline, where the waves come in to meet the wet sand, you have a different kind of experience. The water washes over your feet, and the sand beneath you shifts and pulls away. It’s peaceful for a moment, but it is not a solid place to stand. And it certainly is not a place to build a house.
Jesus was teaching the crowd about the authority of His Word and how vital it is to hear and obey Him. He is the true foundation. He is the wisdom of God. And He made it clear that only those who build on the rock will stand.
There are people who admire His words but never follow them. There are people who attend church and hear the truth but never surrender their lives. And there are others who hold onto Him only when life feels calm, but when storms hit, they fall because their roots never went deep.
A strong foundation in Christ does not come from simply knowing about Him. It comes from trusting Him, following Him, and obeying Him daily.
Storms will come. Winds will rise. Life will shake us. But if we are built on the rock, we will not fall.
Many people build their lives on beauty, popularity, success, or temporary comfort. Just like those beach homes that collapse year after year from storms and changing tides, a life built on sand will never hold.
But when Christ is your foundation, you are secure. You are steady. You are safe.
Today's Prayer
Lord, help me to build my life on You and not on the shifting sand of this world. I want to be steady in every season. Teach me to not just hear Your Word, but to obey it. Shape my decisions, my thoughts, and my direction. Make my faith strong and deep so that when trials come, I will still stand. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Before You Go
It is not enough to hear God's Word. We must live it. The true test of a strong foundation in Christ is not how we feel during the calm, but how we stand during the storm.
Take a moment to reflect:
What are you really building your life on?
Are there areas where you know the Word, but you are not obeying it?
What does a strong foundation in Christ look like in your daily life?
How can you grow deeper and stronger in Him this week?
Let your life be built on the Rock. The winds may blow, but your house will stand.
Did you miss it? Don’t worry—you can still catch up.
