Thanksgiving Reflections on the Holiness of God

Dove flying in the sky representing the holiness of God

Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness (Psalm 97:12).

Psalm 30:4 (KJV)
Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

When the Bible talks about God’s holiness, it’s not just using a fancy word—it’s revealing who God really is. Holy means He’s completely set apart, totally perfect, unlike anyone or anything else. Just thinking about that should stir something deep in our hearts. It’s more than just awe—it’s gratitude.

Contemplating God's Holiness

There are days where I can admit, I think of myself more than I should. It’s an ugly trait we all wrestle with sometimes—comparing ourselves to others, measuring our worth by the wrong things. But when I pause and reflect on God’s holiness, I’m quickly reminded: none of us measure up on our own. We're all unclean, and we all need Jesus—every single day. He’s the only one who can cleanse us, make us whole, and yes, even make us holy.

That’s why God's holiness humbles me and fills my heart with thanks. It shows me how far I fall short—but also how far His grace reaches. Mary, the mother of Jesus, had a beautiful response to God's holiness. In Luke 1:46–55, her praise overflows as she recognizes who God is and what He’s done. Her heart reflects exactly the kind of thanksgiving I want to offer—praise not just for blessings, but for God's very nature.

And we can't forget how Jesus, our Savior, makes a way for us to stand before such a holy God. Through Him, we are justified, made right, and being transformed each day. That’s a gift beyond words—and it calls for thanksgiving every single day.

So today, let’s carry a heart of thankfulness. Not just for what we’ve been given, but for who God is—holy, perfect, unchanging—and for the grace that welcomes us into His presence.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving for His Holiness

Heavenly Father,
You are holy, and yet You choose to dwell with us.
Even when I get caught up in myself or in comparison, You gently remind me that I need You.
Thank You for making me whole through Jesus and for the grace that allows me to walk in holiness.
May my heart always remember who You are and respond with sincere thanksgiving.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Before You Go

Take a few quiet minutes today and ask yourself: Have I paused lately to consider God’s holiness? Let that reflection lead you into honest thanksgiving—and let it shape how you see yourself and others.

Bible Verse of the Day

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.
